It tackles the challenges posed by the high workload and inherent human biases in traditional pathological examinations, which remain the cornerstone for diagnosing most diseases. Central to this discussion is the innovative approach that harnesses artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced image processing techniques to analyze high-resolution digital whole slide images (WSIs) in pathology. The chapter underscores the feasibility of achieving accurate, efficient, and unbiased diagnoses, as well as the capability to predict disease outcomes more effectively. It further explores how this technological solution can be integrated with the invaluable expertise and experience of pathologists, leading to AI-assisted systems that enhance personalized medical care and tailor treatment plans for individual patients. A thorough review of the concepts and applications of clinical histopathology, digital pathology, and computational pathology is presented in detail. The chapter culminates by emphasizing the significant contributions and value of AI-based computational pathology in the realm of precision medicine.
