Abstract Nursing care of the patient undergoing pituitary surgery is found in a comprehensive understanding of pituitary physiology and pathophysiology; however, surgical approach, underlying pathology, and institutional policies provide the framework for care rendered at the bedside. It is important to be knowledgeable of hospital-specific protocols regarding the routine care of patients undergoing routine pituitary surgery, as this may vary from institution to institution. Regardless of institutional variations, nursing considerations are inclusive of providing direct patient care, monitoring for potential complications, and providing patient education.
