The Interface Structure between Ti Transition Layer and Substrate Steel

TiAlN/Ti coating was deposited by multiarc ion plating (MAIP) method with hotpresssintered TiAl alloy used as the target. The interface structure of coating was studied with XTEM. The results show that both TiAlN layer and Ti layer have polycrystalline columnar structure, an interface phase FeTi, which exists between the Ti transition layer and the high speed steel (HSS) substrate has certain orientation relationship with the αFe phase in the substrate.
