Objective To investigate the effect of electroacupuncture on gastric blood flow and function during ischemia and reperfusion by its stimulation of point Zusanli(ST36)in gastric ischemia-reperfusion rats. Methods A gastric ischemia-reperfusion group(control)and an electroacupuncture model group were established. When electroacupuncture was performed at point Zusanli, gastric blood flow and electrogastrographic fast waves under gastric ischemia and reperfusion were examined using a laser Doppler hemodromograph and a multichannel physiological recording system.During the interruption of blood flow, its volume decreased less in the electroacupuncture group than in the control group, and there was a statistically significant difference at 25 min(P0.05). During the restoration of blood flow, its volume increased more in the electroacupuncture group than in the control group. In the electroacupuncture group, the electrogastrographic wave amplitude was significantly higher under ischemia than under reperfusion (P0.05).In the control group, there was a statistically significant difference in the electrogastrographic fast wave frequency between under the interruption of blood flow and under the normal condition(P0.05).In the electroacupuncture group, there was a statistically significant difference in the electrogastrographic fast wave frequency between under the restoration of blood flow and under the normal condition(P0.05).Conclusion Electroacupuncture stimulation of point Zusanli has an effect of increasing blood flow volume under different conditions of blood flow during gastric ischemia and reperfusion. Its effect on the gastric electrical activity correlates with the concomitant gastric function in different body conditions.Overall,it has an inhibitory effect on the gastric electrical activity.
