摘要
Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is a technique used to reproduce the activation patterns of functional muscles, in order to create muscular contractions, through electrical stimulation of the muscles' nervous tissue. Even though FES has been used since 1961, most of the recently developed systems still use pre-programmed movements. Thus, given the global trend for personalized and wearable rehabilitation methods, this paper focuses on a literature review of FES systems' components and the control strategies that aim to provide a personalized experience for the user, with the purpose of finding the best approach for a FES drop foot correction system.
