Intergroup Threat Theory

Abstract Over the past several decades, a growing number of social scientists have become interested in the role that threats play in intergroup conflict. Threats are believed to be a major cause of conflict as well as an impediment to peace and reconciliation. In this essay we explore these two issues using the intergroup threat theory as a framework. We also discuss psychological processes and techniques involved in reducing intergroup threats.
