Three ecofriendly protic ionic liquids (PILs) from sebacic acid, caprylic acid and ricinoleic acid were investigated their anticorrosion and lubrication performances in water-glycol. Based on the analyses of wear scar and QCM-D, the adsorption capacities of the PILs are positively related to their lubrication abilities. Compared with other two PILs, RPR with the stronger adsorption affinity can promote the more significant improvement in the lubricity of water-glycol owing to compact adsorption layer and carbon film. In addition, the results of OCM-D and electrochemical corrosion test are not completely consistent. DSD with weaker adsorption capacity show higher corrosion inhibition property contrasted with CPC, although RPR still outperform DSD and CPC. The abnormal phenomenon is properly explained by quantum chemical calculation.
