STUDY ON EXPANSION MECHANISM OF EXPANDED GRAPHITE

In the process of graphite expansion, a phenomenon was found that the compressed expanded graphite can not be expanded for many times. The XRD results showed that expanded graphite still has graphite structure. It was also discovered that the little contents of the ash in the expanded graphite, the more the expansion volume of the expanded graphite. A new expansion mechanism was deduced that the expansion took place not only between the layers but also in the vacancy left by the ash vaporizing, and the demonstration for this conclusion was put forth.
