Propionibacterium acnes may modify the barrier properties of the skin

The epidermal barrier can be affected by many external and internal factors, however little is known about the role of the cutaneous microbiota. Thus, our aim was to analyse in in vitro model systems whether the commensal Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) bacterium has any effect on the barrier properties of the human epidermis.
