Objective: To determine whether maternal obesity is a risk factor for pregnancy in ways of prolongation, at Teaching Regional Hospital of Trujillo, during the period January 2006 to December 2015.
Material and Method: Was performed a study of type retrospective, case-control analytical with the medical histories of patients whose delivery. Conforming the cases group, 120 patients (pregnancy in ways of prolongation) and the control group, 240 (term pregnancy) by LMP and / or transvaginal ultrasound in the first trimester. In each group the independent variable was determined by body mass index (BMI) for identifying maternal obesity. The magnitude of the association between maternal obesity and pregnancy in ways of prolongation was evaluated by the odds ratio (odds ratio) and Pearson chi2; and for comparison between proportions, Z test it was applied with a confidence interval of 95% and p <0.001.
Results: It was found up to 35% of pregnant women with obesity in the cases and 16.25% of pregnant women with obesity within the controls. Maternal obesity is a risk factor for pregnancy in ways of prolongation evidenced by an odds ratio [OR]: 2.775 ;( confidence interval 95% [CI]:1,669- 4,613; p <0.001), and [Z]: 4, 02; p <0.001).
Conclusions: Maternal obesity is a risk factor for pregnancy in ways of prolongation.
