摘要
Maintaining a clean and hygienic environment in hospitals requires an excellent water supply and drainage system. The sources of water supply can vary, including water network suppliers, boreholes, underground water wells and connections for portable water trucks. It is crucial for hospitals to have a water storage capacity equivalent to 3 days of water consumption. The main storage tank can be constructed using concrete or glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) tanks. Water treatment is essential in hospitals to control the growth of microorganisms in the water supply. Therefore, suitable arrangements must be in place to treat the water based on its intended use. Separate water supply lines may be installed for drinking water taps and fountains. To ensure a constant and high flow of water, hospitals should have a system that maintains consistent water pressure. Considering the need for hot water in various areas, hospitals should make adequate provisions for hot water supply. The sanitary fittings within the hospital should be designed to create an infection-free, safe and hygienic environment. Additionally, hospitals must have an effective drainage system in place. It is important to note that the effluents generated by the hospital should meet high-quality standards and pose minimal risks. The enclosed checklist provides the sequence of water supply and drainage works, which should be completed for the building, aiding the site engineer in planning the start and end days of each activity along with the present status of that particular activity.
