Herein, a novel electrochemical sensor for the detection of moxifloxacin (MOXI) was created by modifying carbon paste electrode (CPE) with CaO nanoparticles (CaO-NPs), synthesized from eggshell waste, conjugated with polymer film of poly L- serine (PS-CaO-NPs/CPE). The electrochemical investigations of MOXI showed that the utilized modifiers enhanced the electrocatalytic efficiency of the fabricated sensor resulting in a noticeable increase in the oxidation peak current when compared to unmodified CPE. The newly electrochemical sensor displays a good performance for detecting MOXI with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.001 µM, and a linear range between 0.02 µM and 2.5 µM. Additionally, the manufactured sensor offered satisfactory selectivity toward MOXI in the presence of various interferences, good stability, and reproducible response. Additionally, this electrode successfully determined MOXI in serum blood samples and commercial tablets with recoveries between 95.5% and 102.5%.
