Self‐Healing Polymer Coatings

The critical characteristics of self-healing polymeric coatings are covered in this chapter. An outline of progress in existing self-healing coating methods and realistic frameworks of polymeric coatings are provided after elaborating the introduction and benefits on self-heal concepts in polymer coatings. Self-regeneration of surfaces and anti-corrosive protective layer fractures were discussed. Eventually, a current industrial applications and possible potential activity for the future prospect will also be discussed. This review aims to explore the fast expanding area of self-healing polymeric coatings by analyzing the main mechanisms that were effective in automatic repair over the past decade. Furthermore, some issues relating to the transition from laboratories to valid industrial application of these self-healing technologies were addressed.
