摘要
Cleansing is the cornerstone of effective skincare; however, traditional cleansing formulations can disrupt skin’s balance and natural protective properties, leading to a dull, dry, irritated complexion. This is especially challenging for subjects with dry, sensitive skin that is exacerbated by stripping facial cleansers. A new low pH facial cleanser was developed with gluconolactone, a mild poly hydroxy acid (PHA), shown in previous research to have humectancy properties and enhance cell turnover. This cleanser was shown to be mild to the skin barrier and nonirritating as measured using in vitro techniques previously described to be predictive of in vivo irritation outcomes, including TEER (integrity of the skin barrier through electrical resistance) and IL-1a (epithelial tissue injury). Skin benefits and tolerance impact of twice daily use of this novel, low pH, 2% PHA-containing facial cleanser were evaluated in a 4-week, single center clinical study in 35 adults with self-perceived dry and sensitive skin. D-Squame and pH measurements were conducted at baseline and week 4 to assess skin flakiness and change to skin pH, respectively; both supported that the skin barrier was well maintained after 4 weeks. The cleanser was well-tolerated based on investigator-graded and self-perceived cutaneous tolerance parameters, with subjects reporting soft, supple and healthier-looking skin. High-resolution images comparing baseline vs week 4 showed a benefit to skin tone, texture, and radiance. Here, we have demonstrated the skin balancing, exfoliating benefits of a new low pH facial cleanser with gluconolactone PHA, that is also well-tolerated by subjects with self-perceived dry, sensitive skin.
