We read with interest the article recently published by Vinters et al.1 The authors analyzed autopsy brains from patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and observed a high prevalence of atherosclerosis and arteriolosclerosis. In addition, the authors call attention to the severe calcification finding. Indeed, vascular calcification is a highly prevalent condition in both situations CKD2 and aging,3 and, as stated by the authors, this makes it difficult to characterize which neuropathologic feature is derived from each clinical situation.
