Memory is Suspended in the Form of a Ceremony

The centenary ceremony of the birth of Lu Xun was a grand celebration held officially. While it had the form of a ceremony in terms of its large scale, its place for the ceremony, figures and cultural connotations, the ceremony was contradictory in many a way. On the one hand, the Great Cultural Revolution was negated at the ceremony; but it was suspended on the other hand. Moreover, Lu Xun was commemorated whereas his enlightenment spirit was evaded. What was the intention of the official ceremony? Was there a possibility that official discourse could be interpreted in two diverse manners?.
