摘要
This work carefully scrutinizes the major advances in this field, highlighting their relevance in various scientific and industrial areas. It begins by establishing a solid conceptual basis, classifying these dots into various categories, and examining their physico-chemical characteristics. It then explores traditional synthesis methods and advances, assessing their advantages and limitations. Studying their current applications, this chapter highlights their use in industry, nanotechnology, and energy. Nevertheless, it does not neglect the inherent challenges, such as stability, toxicity, and barriers to their widespread adoption. Finally, it looks at the prospects for the future of carbon dots, highlighting forthcoming innovations, their potential role in reducing carbon emissions, and their impact on the transition to cleaner energy. This chapter also provides a comprehensive overview of developments and future opportunities in the field of carbon dots, while prompting reflection on their crucial importance in research and industry.
