According to work-tool thermocouple principle, the hobbing temperature in gear hobbing is researched. The changing character of hobbing temperature in gear hobbing and the relation between cutting conditions and hobbing temperature are discussed by means of experiments. The hobbing temperature changes periodically with cutting time and cutting-in and cutting-out workpiece. At the same time, it is related to the number of teeth space and the number of threads. With the increase of cutting speed, hobbing temperature notably increase, and the increase is not so obvious with axial feed increase in contrast. The conclusion of experiments above provides references for reasonably selecting cutting conditions and geometrical parameter of hob, prolonging the life of gear hobs, and predicting processes of gear hobbing.
