摘要
Polarized light microscopy (PLM) is used to analyse birefringent materials or samples that are anisotropic. PLM is a simple, inexpensive and non-invasive technique, and it has an extensive range of applications. Geologists most commonly utilize it for crystallographic analysis of minerals and rocks. However, recent advancements have led to its utilization in diagnostic and cellular biology sectors also. PLM provides vital structural information regarding minerals and crystals. PLM can study different cellular activities without using any exogenous dye. In this chapter, we have discussed the basic principle, working and applications of PLM in a concise manner.
