The aim of this paper is to malce the practitioner aware that lime stabilisation is practicable and economically viable in the present economic climate. The availability of quicklime and hydrated lime in New Zealand and the applicability of this lime to stabilise different types of soil to form pavement layers are briefly discussed. Although construction of lime-stabilised pavement layers is the main aspect discussed, brief mention is made of laboratory testing and design of lime-soil mixes.
