Herein, we describe the crosslinking of electrodeposited chitosan/gelatin hydrogel with genipin for cell culture. First, patterned chitosan/gelatin hydrogels were electrodeposited at −4.0 V using a patterned electrode. Next, the hydrogel was crosslinked using genipin, a favorable crosslinking agent with low cytotoxicity; this allowed the hydrogel construct to be preserved in a culture medium for over five days. Moreover, mammalian cells were successfully cultured inside and on the crosslinked hydrogels. The hydrogels will be used for the fabrication of three-dimensional tissue organs.
