The mechanism of spontaneous combustion of coal is discussed on the basis of free radical reactions. The cause of free radical generation in coal, the course of free radical reactions and the component of gases releasing from coal during the oxidation of coal are investigated. Some of the phenomenon of spontaneous combustion of coal are explained by using this mechanism. 5 refs.
