Objective:To investigate the changes periodontium and levers of TGF-β_1 in rats caused by tooth movement. Methods:Orthodontic tooth movement of upper incisors was induced in 35 male Wistar rats.Histological changes in periodontium and expression of TGF-β_1 were observed in 1,3,6,10 and 14 days after tooth movement by using HE immunohistochemical staining.Results:TGF-β_1 was observed in periodontium before movement. After tooth movement the number of TGF-β_1 cells initially increased in both compressed and stretched tissues. 3 to 5 days after movement TGF-(1 cell levels decreased in compressed zones and remained constant in stretched zones.Conclusion:TGF-β_1 participates in periodontium remodeling during orthodontic tooth movement.TGF-β_1 plays a double role in remodeling of periodontium during orthodontic tooth movement, and can powerfully promote bone formation.
