Coherent Smith-Purcell radiation of a hollow electron beam from a metasurface

We generalize the theory of Smith–Purcell effect for a hollow electron beam moving above a metasurface. We find that radiation in coherent regime is sensitive to the electron distribution inside the beam and propose a noninvasive way to study hollow beams inner structure. Numerical estimates are made for the terahertz range.
