Abstract After the variable frequency drive retrofit of vertical condensate pumps, a problem of vibration within a certain frequency range has become common, which affects the safe and economical operation of the pumps. This paper introduces the structural characteristics of condensate pumps and the vibration phenomena that occur during variable frequency operation. To reduce the vibration of pumps, the theory of dynamic vibration absorber is introduced, and a vibration damper is designed. The vibration absorber is installed at the top of the pump’s drive motor. Experiments were conducted to compare the vibration of the pump before and after the installation of the vibration absorber. The experimental results show that the vibration reduction rate achieved by the absorber can reach more than 80%. The dynamic vibration absorber is highly effective in reducing vibration in vertically arranged pumps of this type.
