This article summarizes the status of research in V based hydrogen storage alloys. Hydride of V based alloy, alloying elements and the secondary phase are discussed. The structure of hydrides in the V based alloys changes from bcc to bct to fcc with the increasing of hydrogen content, while its stability becomes more unstable; alloying elements change the properties of hydrogen storage alloys by modifying the affinity of V and H and by modifying stability of hydride; secondary phase has a significant effect on electrochemical characteristics and kinetic characteristics of this kind of alloy. According to the analysis above, further research on this kind of alloys are predicted.
