Antifouling and drag reduction of ships are two critical issues of shipping industry. For many years,many scholars in fields of ships,manufacturing and materials have researched the mechanism and technology of antifouling and drag reduction from different angles. And there have been a series of the fruitful achievements. But so far,researches of antifouling and drag reduction still belong to different research fields. If we extend the bionic antifouling in microstructure to bionic drag reduction in microstructure,and use the bionic microstructure to realize antifouling and drag reduction at the same time.Then we can realize synergistic effect of antifouling and drag reduction. It will have great significance. The technical problems which appear when the technology of antifouling or drag reduction is used respectively can be solved. The synergistic effect of antifouling and drag reduction is proposed in this paper,and the advantages of it are analyzed. The synergistic effect of antifouling and drag reduction and the methods based on biomimetic shell are also introduced in detail.
