In the recent years, the development in nanoscience and nanotechnology has generated many areas of research. Nanoscale layered double hydroxides is one of the many areas worthy of exploring. The layered double hydroxides (LDHs) is a class of materials with a great number of applications due to their structural and chemical properties. LDH can be prepared by the co-precipitation of two metal salts in a basic solution and hybrid system can be produced by intercalation of a guest component to the LDH. More attention is directed towards the hybrid systems such as organic-inorganic hybrid because of their synergistic effects not attainable from independent alone. Their properties are reviewed in many studies; they are used in different fields as catalyst, polymer, drug delivery and many more. This report is the first part of the study on nanoscale layered double hydroxide (LDH) materials with organic anions intercalation. Mg2Al-NO3-LDH is used as the precursor and the intercalation of the oleate has been carried out, more experiments and analyses using various techniques are in progress. Some preliminary results are presented in Chapter 4.5 in the report to update the progress.
