Objective To investigate the urodynamic characteristics of female patients with interstitial cystitis(IC) or overactive bladder(OAB).Methods The NIDDK criteria have been used for clinical diagnosis.21 female patients with IC and 32 female patients with OAB underwent a standard urodynamic examination. The 2 groups were compared and statistically analyzed. Results There were significant differences between the IC group and the OAB group in following parameters(P0.05): Qmax, maximal volume at micturition desire(MV),volume at first desire(VFD) and bladder compliance(BC).Moreover 2 out of 21 patients of IC group(9.5%) vs 25 out of 32 patients of OAB group(78.1%) had detrusor overactivity(DO)(P0.05).Conclusion OAB can be distinguished from IC by several differences. Therefore, urodynamic examination is a valuable diagnostic tool for differential diagnosis of IC and OAB.
