The rectifier peak output power (RPOP) and optimal rectified voltage range (ORVR) are two crucial metrics for evaluating piezoelectric energy rectifier performance. Series synchronized switch harvesting on inductor (S-SSHI) rectifier scheme features a narrow ORVR with high RPOP, whereas synchronous electric charge extraction (SECE) rectifier scheme has a wide ORVR with low RPOP. The combination of both can offer an attractive solution to balance RPOP and ORVR. For this purpose, a new S-SSHI and SECE hybrid rectifier is proposed in this paper. In contrast to the prior hybrid rectifier, the proposed rectifier offers advantages such as compact design, enhanced RPOP and ORVR, and the ability to easily extend to multiple piezoelectric traducers (multi-PZTs) energy harvesting. Experimental results show the proposed rectifier can achieve 4.25 times RPOP and 2.5 times ORVR compared with a full-bridge rectifier (FBR) for a single PZT. In addition, the proposed rectifier can achieve simultaneous energy extraction from three PZTs with arbitrary phase differences. The RPOP and ORVR of the proposed rectifier is 3.61 times and 2.64 times higher than using a multiinput FBR (MI-FBR).
