THE occurrence of pendulous crop in turkeys has been described by Hinshaw and Asmundson (1936). In a subsequent study, Asmundson and Hinshaw (1938) reported evidence in favor of heredity as a factor which influenced the occurrence of pendulous crop. Cline (1933) attributed the abnormal crop condition to the level of protein in the ration. Experimentally induced pendulous crop was reported by Wheeler et al. (1957). In further work by Rigdon et al. (1958) and Manfre et al. (1958) on the experimentally induced pendulous crop, three microorganisms, Saccharomyces tellustris, Candida albicans, and Torulopsis glabrata were isolated from the crop of affected birds. The occurrence of the enlarged crop was significantly greater when the source of the carbohydrate in the diet was glucose monohydrate than when starch was substituted for the glucose. Wheeler et al. (1960) reported an apparent difference in susceptibility of the induced pendulous crop condition between Beltsville Small White…
