Faster forward. Forward chemical genetics is an emergent method for studying the function of proteins. It is a three-step process, in which the design and synthesis of a small-molecule library is followed by the search for novel phenotypes and isolation and identification of target protein(s). This review is focused on the strategies and research tools that have been developed to accelerate and systematize this field.
