Isolation of macrophages from tissues, fluids, and immune response sites

Abstract This chapter describes strategies for the isolation of macrophages from specific tissue sites under normal or pathological conditions. Macrophages and/or macrophage-like cells can be found in a variety of organs in the body; however, in many cases, only insufficient numbers can be obtained by practical methods and experimentation with such cell populations is limited to histological techniques. The protocols described below are those which consistently produce moderate to high yields of viable cells with consideration to time and practicality.
