Production Status of Pear Production and the Plannings for Different Main Producing Areas in Beijing

Pear is a traditional fruit planting variety in Beijing. Currently, pear planting area in Beijing reaches up to 7,600 ha, with a total income of as high as 506 million yuan. Pear plantation in Beijing exhibits a relatively concentrated distribution in the following five producing areas: sandy pear producing area in Yongdinghe District, sandy pear producing area on the banks of Chaobai River, plain pear producing area in southern Beijing, mountainous pear producing area in northeast Beijing and pear producing area around Western Hills of Beijing. Pear planting area should be stable in the coming years. In plain area, both quality and production efficiency should be improved via tree reshaping, adequate nutrient and water management and pest control, while labor-saving plantation and water-saving irrigation techniques should also be vigorously promoted. In mountainous area, some traditional characteristic pear varieties mainly including Beijing White Pear, Child-Mother Pear, Beijing Red Pear and Sour Pear can be appropriately developed in accordance with local conditions, while rural income can also be increased by combining traditional fruit development with mountain construction. Local government and farmers should also work hard on innovative management, actively introduce leading enterprises and external capital, build the brand and explore innovative sales model.
