摘要
Space research is seeing an increased focus on commercial applications compared to traditional military or navigational programs. The new industry lead approach is driving cost-based solutions such as re-useable launch vehicles, as well as large constellations of small craft in place of a small number of large, complex satellites. Miniaturization and weight saving are driving the use of ceramics in space applications and new technologies and processes are being developed to manufacture complex these materials and structures. This article aims to summarize some of the uses of ceramics in space past and present applications, as well as indicate active areas of growth for future applications.
