Design and Analysis of Self-Balancing Two Wheeler Vehicle

A two-wheeled vehicle with self-balancing attribute is designed for mis-use in present work. Classical calculations for chassis, swing arm, braking components are presented. Computer aided modelling is used for making a three-dimensional model of the vehicle. A proper combination of solid and surface attributes is made in present work. The crashworthiness of the vehicle chassis and swing arm is carried out using finite element analysis (FEA). From the FEA, the magnitude of stresses and deflections at critical locations of the tubular chassis and swing arm are evaluated. Calculations for the gyroscope and overturning couple of two-wheeled vehicle are also carried out. The gyroscopic system is proposed for two wheeled electric vehicles. The design of brakes and suspension system is also carried out. Telescopic suspension for front and mono-shock suspension for rear is proposed. Disk braking system is proposed for the present vehicle. The vehicle is proposed to accommodate a single passenger and the stabilization capability is currently carried out for static and dynamic conditions. Maximum vehicle speed is 85 kmph. Material for vehicle chassis is AISI. The meshing of the vehicle chassis is carried out using Altair Hypermesh. A scaled prototype model has been developed and tested for the self-stabilizing capability. In present work a single self-processing type gyroscope with spin axis parallel to vertical axis is used for balancing. Location of gyroscope is presumed at the location of engine from stability aspect. Overall stability for the proposed self-balancing two-wheeled vehicle is found to be improved with the use of gyroscope.
