Abstract Digital twin is an emerging new technology that has received significant attentions from standard organizations, industry, and academia. Industries such as manufacturing, architecture, hydraulics, electricity et al. have started using digital twin in operation, it can help with resources management, fault detection, smart maintenance management, et al., which increases working efficiency, as well as reducing budget. High-risk equipment such as pressure vessels, pipeline, and storage tanks typically operate at extreme operating conditions, problems may occasionally occur that forces the equipment shut down for maintenance, which would affect the operating efficiency of the equipment and raising up the cost. Therefore, a suitable digital twin method should be selected for evaluation. As a new technology used in industry, a conceptual system, and the definition of related terms in that field are the foundation for all subsequent work, they should be properly defined in the standard. The standardization progress of digital twin is discussed, digital twin models of high-risk equipment are introduced, and digital twin standardization of high-risk equipment are introduced in the present article.
