Intestinal obstruction in infants due to malrotation of the bowel associated with volvulus

1.1. Duodenal obstruction in infants due to malrotation of the bowel is probably more frequent than is usually suspected. 2.2. There are two main types, namely, that due to malrotation of the cecum alone and incomplete rotation associated with volvulus of the mesentery of the small intestine. 3.3. Untwisting of the mesentery will suffice for most cases but as illustrated in the case reported herein a minority will require some form of fixation procedure. 4.4. A case of malrotation and volvulus relieved by surgery in which the volvulus recurred postoperatively is presented.
