摘要
Introduction: This study aims to explore the role of nanotechnology in the formulation of advanced cosmetic products. It examines the mechanisms by which nanoparticles enhance skin penetration and the challenges encountered during the production of nanoparticle-based cosmeceuticals. Methods: The paper reviews various formulation techniques used in the development of nanocosmetics, including interfacial polymerization, salting-out, solvent evaporation, nanoprecipitation, ionic gelation, and emulsion polymerization. It also reviews the application of nanoparticles in a wide range of cosmeceutical products for skin, hair, lips, and nails. Additionally, the study includes details of cosmetovigilance. Results: Nanoparticles have demonstrated the ability to significantly improve the delivery and effectiveness of key cosmetic actives in products such as anti-wrinkle creams, moisturizers, and depigmentation formulations. These nano-enhanced products exhibit improved skin absorption, resulting in more noticeable outcomes. However, concerns regarding potential toxicity and long-term safety remain, prompting ongoing research into safer and more sustainable nanomaterials. Some advanced nanomaterials and nanotechnologies currently in use are also mentioned. Discussion: The global cosmetic industry has experienced significant growth, accompanied by a rising consumer demand for more effective and targeted skincare and personal care products. In response to this trend, the integration of nanotechnology into cosmetic formulations, commonly referred to as nanocosmetics, has emerged as a promising advancement. Nanotechnology enables enhanced delivery of active ingredients into deeper layers of the skin, thereby improving the efficacy of cosmetic products. Conclusion: Nanotechnology holds significant transformative potential for the cosmetic industry, offering innovative solutions that enhance product performance and consumer satisfaction. As research continues to address safety challenges and explore sustainable alternatives, nanocosmetics are poised to play a critical role in shaping the future of personal care. The combination of scientific innovation and consumer demand positions nanotechnology as a catalyst for the next revolution in cosmetic science.
