On the theory of consolidation with double porosity

Aifantis' theory of consolidation with double porosity is further examined in terms of the physical interpretation and experimental determination of its phenomenological coefficients and its solution to typical engineering problems. Specifically, analytical solutions to the column problem of hydroengineering and the borehole problem of petroleum engineering are obtained. The solutions are reduced to familiar results of classical consolidation theory with single porosity when one type of pore space shrinks to zero.
