Compared with the traditional synthetic method through ring opening polymerization of lactide, the direct polycondensation method is simpler and more efficient to produce polylactic acids biodegradable material. Though the relative molecular mass of polylactic acids via solution polycondensation is higher than that via melt polycondensation, the latter is simpler in process, and is suitable to synthesize the extension prepolymer for further advancing relative molecular mass. When plymerized without catalysts, materials used for drug release can be directly synthesized via melt polycondensation.
