ApoB triumphs once more over LDL-C and non-HDL-C in risk prediction: ready for guidelines?

Three distinct yet highly correlated cholesterol measures are recommended by guidelines to assess cholesterol-driven risk: (1) apolipoprotein B (apoB), (2) non-high densty lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) and (3) low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). Sniderman et al. demonstrate in the UK Biobank that for a given non-HDL-C or LDL-C, variances in apoB levels are present. These differences can lead to clinically significant disparities in risk for affected patients.
