Objective:To explore the role of thrombopoietin in chronic hepatitis B patients with thrombocytopenia. Methods:The serum thrombopoietin levels, prothrombin activity, bone marrow megakaryocyte count were measured in 76 chronic hepatitis B patients with thrombocytopenia. Results:The serum thrombopoietin levels were correlated with parameters including coagulation activation, bone marrow megakaryocyte count, the platelet count(r was 0.423,0.396,0.297 respectively,P0.05).The bone marrow megakaryocyte count was below(7/4.5cm2) in 22 out of 76 patients.Megakaryocyte was dysmaturity in 29 out of 76 patients. Conclusion:The results suggest that decline of thrombopoietin may contribute to thrombocytopenia in chronic hepatitis B patients.
