The distribution of copper and magnesium between aluminium and lead was studied at 750 and 950°C. From the data and the known activities of copper and magnesium in liquid lead, the activity coefficients of copper and magnesium in aluminium were calculated over the entire binary composition ranges. The investigation showed that the distribution is temperature dependent and that, in the presence of a small quantity of magnesium, copper is preferentially dissolved in molten aluminium.
