The mechanical properties and microstructure of the superalloy Inconel 718 were analyzed. The machinability and behavior during machining the Inconel 718 were also presented .The related industrial experiments were conducted to investigate the relationship between the carbon content and the corresponding tool wear of this workpiece material during metal cutting. The results showed that the carbon content of Inconel 718 plays a key role in tool flank wear during machining.More serious wear was observed with the increase of carbon content.
