Purpose: We may study the fitness status of individuals measuring maximum oxygen consumption during exercise stress test. Aim of the study is the estimation of maximum oxygen consumption statistics (VO2 max) during cardiopulmonary exercise test in healthy middle-aged Greek individuals. Methods: We submit fifty healthy mostly middle-aged individuals (mean age 41.6 + 14 years, 33 men and 17 women) in maximum cardiopulmonary exercise test in order to study their fitness status. No-one individual participated in any special training program at least for the last year. Results: We found that: a. VO2 max in men had a mean value + SD: 30.2+6.6 ml/kg/min, median value: 29.7 ml/kg/min, 25–75 I.Q. range: 24.9–34.3 ml/kg/min and minimum-maximum range: 20.1–48 ml/kg/min, b. VO2 max in women had a mean value + SD: 21.9 + 4.6 ml/kg/min, median value 21.1 ml/kg/min, 25–75 I.Q. range: 18.5–25.6 ml/kg/min and minimummaximum range: 13.1–29.7 ml/kg/min and c. VO2 max levels had a significant negative correlation with age both in men (r= −0.70, p<0.001) and women (r= −0.85, p<0.001).
