Evolution of Heat Exchanger Design Techniques

Abstract The principles of ' rating' and ' design ' of shell-and-tube heat exchangers are described as they developed from manual type methods to computerized applications. Criteria for initial design considerations, identification of limiting cases, and analysis of intermediate and final designs are described in sufficient detail to serve as a guide for heat exchanger designers. Future developments in the art and techniques of exchanger design are discussed.
