Hydrogen peroxide is a kind of chemical material used in lots of industries.However some serious accidents occurred related to hydrogen peroxide.In order to investigate the mechanism of the explosion accident caused by hydrogen peroxide,especially the thermal explosion of hydrogen peroxide,the Accelerating Rate Calorimeter(ARC)was used in this paper to test its thermal risk.After the measured data were modified by considering of thermal inertia factor of ARC,the test results showed that the onset exothermic temperature for hydrogen peroxide with 30% concentration is 34.5 ℃,with the maximum temperature being 246 ℃ and the time to maximum self-heating rate is 100 min.The activation energy Eα and exponential index a of hydrogen peroxide based on test data were calculated,and Eα is 178-181 kJ/mol when the reaction system's temperature is less then 80 ℃,and 103-104 kJ/mol when the reaction system's temperature is more than 80 ℃.Two steps thermal decomposition reaction of hydrogen peroxide was tested in the paper.Experiments released that hydrogen peroxide is very easy to explode and the power of explosion is very strong and harmful to its surrounding.In the end,the paper discussed the related prevention and control measures such as cooling and maximal storage amount,to be used as ways to avoid the explosion accident occurred in process of hydrogen peroxide involved.
