Total Factor Productivity Change of Coal Cities in China Based On DEA-Malmquist Index

Through a nonparametric Malmquist index approach;this paper has analyzed total factor productivity change in China's coal cities' panel data from 1995 to 2005,which is decomposed into technical efficiency and technical progress.The results show:(1) the average technical efficiency of coal cities in China decseases from 1995 to 2005;(2) technical efficiency and technical progress are fluctuation,and technical progress is the main reason for total factor productivity increase,and(3) the role of technical efficiency and technical progress is different with time varying.Meanwhile,we also find that there are obvious differences in and between east,middle and west regions of the coal cities in China.Human capital and institution factors are important influence on TFP,technical efficiency and technical progress.
