This study indicates a critical role of bacterial glycogen biosynthesis in the highly efficient symbiont - vestimentiferan cooperation. This study provides a new perspective for understanding the environmental adaptation strategies of vestimentiferans and adds new insights into the mechanism of metabolic evolution in Metazoa.
